These are very good discs when they are actually Maxell brand (MXLRG02). However, Maxell is trying to pull a fast one on consumers by replacing some of these with Ritek G04's. The Riteks look exactly the same, and the only way to tell the difference before purchasing is on the outside wrapping, where the Made in****an typing is covered up with a Made in Taiwan sticker. I purchased the Taiwanese versions from Buy.com. Very unfortunate that Maxell thinks that consumers are this gullible.
The Ritek discs are not necessarily bad discs, but if you buy them under the Maxell name, you will pay nearly twice as much. Most Ritek suppliers can offer these discs for under $.35/each. I just purchased 100 for $33 from SuperMediaStore.com. If you purchase as Maxell, the same Ritek discs cost at least $.60/each ($14.99/25 on sale at Buy.com). It is very difficult to purchase these discs online and know which one you will get.
As far as failure rates are concerned, I have gone through 25 of the Maxell Riteks so far without a single failure, so they prove to be good media. If Maxell is going to continue supplying the Riteks, that is fine with me. They should at least, however, bring the price inline with other suppliers.
