Ive used the larger more expensive Canon XL1 for several years now and I am a big fan of that camera but recently I bought the GL2 because of its smaller size.
I find the camera meets all expectations and includes features of more expensive equipment. The picture quality is broadcast quality and best yet, for location shooting, because the camera is much smaller, you dont get hassled.
The aperture, shutter speed and many other items are easily adjustable. Both auto focus and manual focus are available as well as a handy feature, a built in neutral density feature to allow you to adjust exposure even more.
I find the easy exposure adjusting with a small wheel to be a real blessing to quickly bracket shots without taking your eye off the action.
The extra large battery has been a relief. I get about six hours out of it.
After carrying around the XL1 Im happy to have the GL2. I spent four hours on location yesterday in 80 degree weather shooting and I would have never been able to get as many shots without this camera.
The time exposure feature is nice and works well. The smallest shot you can take is .5 seconds in length. It makes for a choppy sequence but can be easily fixed in post-production.

I've been using the GL-2 for a year and a half. It has a very sharp picture, with very clean color thanks to the 3 chip design and a good lens. The video it takes is WAY better than any of the consumer cameras out there. On manual, it can be set however you want, and even does 16X9. Too bad it can't do single frame for animation. The auto focus works well, and while the on-board sound is pretty good I also use a plug-in microphone. The 20X zoom needs a tripod, but it's nice to have at times. The strong zoom has allowed me to take great candid close-ups at various events. This camera has been used more than once for broadcast segments that were shown mixed in with video made with very expensive production cameras, and the GL-2's shots looked just fine. The only trouble I've had was when it came off the tripod onto a carpeted floor.(it stopped working) The repairs cost more than I paid for my JVC GR-D90U, and the JVC has survived FAR worse abuse with no effect. Overall I think the GL-2 is a good value if you need a higher quality picture and you can deal with its fairly large size.
QuickTake:
Pros: Super picture even in low light, good sound, easy to use,

I love this camera, if only it were a bit smaller, it would be perfect! The image quality is worth it though, it captures our family moments and is just a fantastic buy.
