I was just like everyone else at some point with this amp. It seemed very boring and uninvolving. But after careful listening found that this amp to be very linear in sound. I mean, it adds nothing and takes nothing away. I had almost gotten used to hearing an amp instead of the music. Also, follow the direction the manufacturer provides. Proper set up is essential. This is not an "up in your face" amplifier. It's a very articulate bass machine. No need to use the eq on the amp...it's cool, but not necessary unless you just want a toy to play with. You want more bass, turn up your volume and hear your music...trust me it'll sound better. This is a powerful and linear amplifier that many of us are not used to hearing yet. We've been listening to "dirty" one note bass amps for far too long. This amp really shines with extremely low bass and reproduces it correctly.

as i have read the previous reviews the problems you guys had is simply that it will clip at 1 ohm because it is rated for 1.5-4ohm operation and the r.i.p. technology isnt for the power the amp receives from your cars charging system its the fact that the amp puts out 500 **true** watts at any ohm range i specified above also to prevent damage to the amp itself it will shut itself off if it is receiving less than 11 volts of power. i have no doubt in my mind that jl is possibly the best out there but i do know for a fact that a 500/1 wouldnt power 3 12w6v2 subs efficiently as i myself have 2 12w3v2 running a 3 ohm load and it hits quite powerfully with just one 12w6v2 it would require a 500/1 all by itself.

This amp suck's becuse it heat's up to fast and to me the max power is about 50 watt's even when it say 500 watts yes it has a bass booust butten but it does not do much what i think is with the bass booust betten puts out on off it's 25 watts with the butten on it's 50 watts Dont get tracked in buying this prudict like i did it say's things on the display that's not even their or it doesent work as good as you think it would that's why they only show you a smill pitcher think's for lissing to me buy something else thnk you questions about this call me at {213}3853469 ask for cristina

Dont let people fool you when they say that it is underrated.. It's not.. it puts out 500watts no matter what voltage is hooked up to.. doesnt matter if it's 11volts or 14.5 its still gonna put out 500 watts.. that because of the R.I.P.S. technology that JL has made. if you dont believe me check it out at there website. Its still a very awesome amp though.

This amp POUNDS my 2 12W3v2's. I have the gain and boost on the amp almost maxed out and have my radio bass controls at half power and I don't want to turn it up anymore. Like i said it slams on whatever you put it with...and it is actually underrated. There is a site I found that showed the specs at 14.4, 13, and 12 volts and at 12 volts it put out nearly 580 watts. The only problem i had was when I first put it in. The amp would shut down because my voltage was dropping below 8 volts and then I added a 1 farad cap and no problems since. Just smooth, clean, flawless power. With the sound controls that JL integrated into this amp you can't lose whether you want SPL, SQ, or SQL(my favorite). Well that's just my 2 little cents.

JL Audio's 500\1 monoblock amp is incredibly powerful. I've bought three of them and I wouldn't get rid of them for anything. They come in a small package, but don't let it fool you. It's strong enough for three 12w6's but not too strong for my three 12w0's. Recently my car was stolen and of course I never saw any of them again but you can bet I'm saving for another one. I want just one more. I want to get it to run four 10w3's. All my stereo stuff is gone and I think I miss my amps most of all.
