I do sports and birding and I needed a fast tele with IS. This fits the bill. It's heavy, but worth its weight.

QuickTake:

Pros: great piece of glass. Clean and crisp pictures in low light.
Cons: wished it could be 250 at 2,8

This lens fills a need in my camera bag. When used with a 1.6 crop factor camera it gives me a great deal of versatility and quality at a walk around weight. I had no idea that my Canon EOS 400D xti was capable of such a sharp image. This lens has made me rethink my need to up grade to a 40D or 5D. For the truly great images or the shots in low light situations a tripod becomes a must. The 70-200 works really well with a Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro yielding an effective 448mm, but demands a tripod for good results. Of course an image stabilized version of this lens would be nice but comes with a weight and cost penalty.

QuickTake:

Pros: Razor sharp hand held images, perfect images when used with a tripod and great build quality.
Cons: No image stabilization, but then I knew that.

Boasting the widest aperture available with any current SLR lens, this f/1.2 model is unusually heavy/expensive because of the oversized optical elements that are required. By comparison, Canon's EF 85mm f/1.8 model is more compact and weighs a full 600 g

Canon EF 70

The 70-200/2.8 lens is one of the most popular professional lenses. Just about every camera and lens maker has at least one in their lineup and Canon has two (plus two more f4 versions). It's popular because it covers a very useful focal length range and

Review Verdict: the EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM isn't a cheap lens. Even with the current $125 instant rebate (good though Feb 17th 2008), the price is around $1585. However you get excellent optical performance and a very effective Image Stabilization system. With the additio
