When I finally decided to make the switch from film to digital, I did a lot of research to find the camera that best fit my budget and my needs. Choosing the EOS 30D was an excellent decision. The camera is similar in size to my EOS film cameras (EOS 1N, EOS 5), and has the familiar quick control dial wheel on the back of the camera to ease exposure compensation and manual control. The camera feels very solid and sturdy in the hand, but might be a bit heavy or bulky for those with small hands. The pixel count is a little low by current standards (8MP vs 10-12 for curent Canon models such as the 40D or the new Rebel XSi), but plenty for my needs, as I rarely print anything larger than 11x17. It has handled everything I've thrown at it, from landscapes to portraits to close-ups of flowers and ancient coins. All in all, the 30D is one of the best camera bargains available today.
