EOS 40D, Possibly the perfect Camera!

Right out of the box this camera lets you take pictures like a pro. The IS len is un-beleivable! Frame rate for action shots is incredible. I will be using this camera for everything from shooting Mud Races and Air shows to Majestic scenery on mountain hikes, to eBay item pics. It is quite capable and is packaged with very solid software to boot.

I upgraded from a Rebel XT. The difference in workmanship alone is astounding! holding it in my hands i could feel the difference right away. the 40D feels so much more high quality. its so smooth in operation - very quiet shutter - very quick response. there are so many more features. the LCD is bright, clear and HUGE compared to the XT. i purchased this camera in order to elevate my photography to a more professional level - i'll be using it for fashion photography as well as commercial. i intend to use it during my studies at the university (photography studies). its a great camera for photographers looking to go into professional photography. its a great introductory camera before jumping into fully professional equipment.

I was torn between this camera and the 5D, but I have to say that I am quite happy that I purchased the 40D. I am upgrading from the earlier version the 10D and the diffrences are amazing. It handels the higher ISO's wonderfully. The large size screen is also great. The color and clarity straight out of camera is also really great. I would highly recomend this camera to anyone. My only complaint is that it is not a full frame sensor, but I can live with that until the new version of the 5D comes out. This is a Great Camera overall.

This is a rugged professional quality camera with a great lens for general photography, portraits, landscapes, and sports. I can't seem to take a bad picture and the Canon tools such as PhotoStitch make it easy to make panoramas. I'd recommend this camera to anyone.

Pros: The camera is fast, takes brilliant photos and has plenty of settings for amateurs and professionals alike.
Cons: The LCD lacks the resolution to really show whether you're in focus. It can take awhile for the shutter.

I plan on using this camera for taking photos of friends, family, and some artistic shots. So far the camera has met all my expectations, including how easy it was to learn how to use the various features. The camera and settings does exactly what you'd expect it to do. I think just a quick read of the manual, and you'll discover yourself being able to take some fantastic shots. Ofcourse my first shots, I didn't even read the manual, I just started shooting, when I wanted to see whatelse I can do, that's when I started skiming through the manual.

About all I can say is that I'm very pleased with this outfit. No problems to deal with, perhaps because I've been using Canon cameras for 25+ years. My passion is airshow photography and am excited by the prospects of this camera and my 100-400IS zoom to capture the shots I've missed in times past.

The software was the biggest let down. For the price of the unit you would expect software that was usable, even with updates online the software still does not work. The editing software seems to be of entry level, whereas the camera would represent a more advance stage of photogrpahy knowledge.The tech support for the software was great, but could not get it to work. Lens is very loose and has alot of freeplay on the focusing section of the barrel. Overall contruction of lens is poor, or I just got a bad one. Very disappointed in the lens contruction.
