Product Rating: 5 star(s) Nikon D40 Digital Camera Review

Comments:
The 6.1-megapixel Nikon D40 retails for $599 with its 18-55mm kit lens. The price indicates a modest step down from previous Nikon entries, and the D40 shows the effects of that cost-cutting. Most notably, it only has 3 auto focus sensor zones, and it doe

Review Verdict: The Nikon D40 is a disappointment. As Nikon has introduced entry-level DSLRs, the company has tended to make them a little more expensive and a little more capable than much of the competition. In this case, it hasn't. The D40's auto focus system is old-f

Product Rating: 4 star(s) D40

Comments:
The D40 is Nikon's new entry-level digital SLR. It packs a similar 6mp sensor to that used in the outgoing D50 and D70s.

Review Verdict: With the exception of the mediocre AF system and quirky data-panel there's still a great deal to like. We can't fault the build or the image quality, but the D40 will more readily appeal to those trading up from a digital compact than owners of older digi

Nikon D40

Comments:
The D40 is Nikon's new entry-level digital SLR. Priced at just $599 with an 18 - 55 mm lens, the D40 is one of the lowest priced SLRs on the market. Nikon didn't cut a lot of corners to keep the price down, either -- this is a very capable camera. It has

Review Verdict: The D40 and its new battery turn in above average battery life numbers. I suppose I should mention my usual list of "gotchas" about proprietary batteries like the EN-EL9. First, at $45 each, they're expensive. Secondly, unlike with cameras that use AA bat

While image quality has strongly improved, the D40 still seems too complex and perhaps expensive compared to the fierce competition.

REVIEW-NIKON D40 digital single lens reflex

Comments:
This 6.2 megapixel camera is Nikon's entry level DSLR. It is lighter and smaller than any previous Nikon. Although at first the camera feels flimsy it is soon apparent that, although light, it is rigid and tightly made.

Review Verdict: Will 6 megapixels do the job? For most people, yes. And the D40 has 6 million really well handled pixels. It is recommended without reservation."

Pros: : With this camera we are able to say that the kit lens is pretty good. It feels plasticky and has a plastic rather than a metal mount, all of which suggests penny pinching and quality compromises. However Nikon have chosen to make it with a modest zoom r
Cons: The D40 is the first Nikon DSLR not to have a camera status LCD on the body top. Camera status is now displayed ephemerally on the LCD review screen and some settings appear in the viewfinder. Nikon is not alone in doing this and it no doubt keeps the pri
