After having my Canon AE-1 SLR with power winder and assorted lenses stolen 25 years ago, I just puttered around with film and digital a point and shoots; mostly for convenience sake and not with the interest and enthusiasm of before. After taking an incredible night time picture of Niagara Falls illuminated with powerful colored spotlights with a simple digital "point and shoot" I yearned for "more" camera, which might have made this shot my best ever. After researching brands and re-sellers, I selected the Nikon D40 and Ritz Cameras for my purchase. I am taking time to read the instructions and absorb other user information, some from professionals found on the internet, in order to fully utilize this wonderful device. My education, background and career centers around video production but my eye is very much "still" oriented. The number of times my internal shutter has fired as I see an extraordinary composition, setting or vista I cannot count. Following each of these moments

QuickTake:

Pros: This is more than a point and shoot on steriods, though it performs in that capacity quite well.
Cons: Someone upgrading from a simple "point and shoot" should read the instructions.

It is fast and is easy to use. The picture quality if also very good. I bought this camera mainly for my kid. It is really great when I took pictures outside. However, the photos is not good in the room. In that case, one needs to turn on the flash light. However, it is not always permittable to do so when we shoot kid. Maybe some other mode will work, but I did not have time to figure it out yet.

QuickTake:

Pros: Very good quality for taking usual photos.
Cons: Not good in the room.

Comments:
The Nikon D40x Digital SLR is one of the cheapest 10 megapixel Digital SLRs available, with ISO100 - 3200, it has a 2.5 inch screen, and a Nikon kit lens.

Review Verdict: The Nikon D40x is a compact 10 megapixel Digital SLR that produces great image quality, with very low noise levels. Images are bright, detailed, and colourful with lots of saturation, and the camera produces pleasing JPEG images. This makes it a great sta

REVIEW-NIKON D40X digital single lens reflex

Comments:
This 10.2 megapixel camera is the same camera as the Nikon D40 except for the sensor. For the extra $500 the buyer gets 4 extra megapixels. Apart from that all that we said about the D40 applies to the D40X. It is lighter and smaller than any previous Nik

Review Verdict: So the question for a would-be buyer is Are those extra pixels worth the $400? 6 million pixels will produce A3 prints. 10 million give some room for cropping without loss of resolution. By comparison with the competition at this price the D40X offers a l

Cons: The D40X, like the D40, does not to have a camera status LCD on the body top. Camera status is now displayed ephemerally on the LCD review screen and some settings appear in the viewfinder. This no doubt keeps the price of the camera down but it is a retr
