Product Rating: 8 star(s) Wide format and Leica lens make this camera worth owning

, May. 8, 2008
Comments:
This is a great camera for well-lit landscapes and travel photography. The 16:9 format is perfect for HDTV viewing, and the Leica lens is extremely sharp and color-corrected. The main downside is low-light shooting, where any ISO higher than 100 results in noise reduction artifacts. I recommend keeping the ISO set at 100, and the noise reduction to "low" for best results.

QuickTake:

Pros: The 16:9 format of this camera is perfect for widescreen and HDTV viewing, and the Leica lens is out of this world.
Cons: Poor high ISO picture quality due to excessive noise reduction.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2

Comments:
Panasonic introduced the Panasonic Lumix DMC LX2, successor to the LX1, which has received high acclaim for its unique 16:9 wide CCD, plentiful functions, and smart design. The Panasonic LX2 inherits the f/2.8 28mm wide angle LEICA DC lens, 4x optical zoo

Comments:
Image quality is reasonable, but there are far better cameras available for less.

Review Verdict: The body of the camera is too large to be justly described as pocket sized. It feels solid, though, and is comfortable in the hand. The controls become second nature after a few days' use and are easily accessible. Flick the on switch at the top of the ca

Comments:
The Lumix LX1, announced July 2005, was a camera that proved just how commited Panasonic is to shaking up the digital camera market with innovative, often quirky products rather than taking the easy (though unimaginitive) 'me too' route followed by so man

Review Verdict: Reviewing the LX2 - the successor to one of the only memorable compact cameras of 2005 - has been a slightly disappointing, yet totally unsurprising experience.

QuickTake:

Pros: Good resolution, sharp results with lots of detail (particularly at ISO 100), Unique 'widescreen' 16:9 sensor, 28mm wideangle (16:9 mode only), Comprehensive photographic control, High quality construction, lovely design, Good edge-to-edge lens performanc
Cons: Noisy sensor and excessive noise reduction at all ISO settings. Low NR setting not low enough, Underpowered flash, Auto flash mode tends to choose 1/30th second shutter speed (and a high ISO in auto ISO mode), Occasional exposure / dynamic range problems

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Digital Camera - Review

Comments:
The Panasonic Lumix LX2, like its predecessor the LX1, is clearly inspired by the surging popularity of widescreen (16:9) televisions. Employing a unique set of "triple-wide" features, the Lumix LX2 combines a 28mm wide-angle Leica lens, a 16:9 wide CCD,

Review Verdict: Panasonic made quite a splash last year with photographers (and reviewers) when it released the LX1, a rangefinder-style shooter with a boatload of features that Imaging Resource's own Mike Pasini called "an excellent little camera, and clearly one of the
