QuickTake:
Pros: Overall ease of use, Spaced buttons, This camera slowly advances the shooter from novice to intermediate skill levels., The price, Adjustable flash power levels
Cons: Manual focus is difficult to adjust (no manual focus ring), , horrible handling of noise, 15 fps is fastest speed for motion video capture
A few years ago, I owned a 35mm Canon that camera lived to its name. Very good product with excellent quality. I then bought a 3.2MP Sony that I ended up giving to my parents. Which forced me to invest in a new camera, and so I went out and bought a Canon A85. This was possibly my worst purchase in a very long time. I've listed a few items that I found unacceptable for a $400 camera:
- The camera is bulky and impractical for the few features it offers; this is possibly due to the fact that it requires 4 AA batteries.
- There is too much noise and grain in pictures, thus reducing the sharpness of photos. Sometimes you can hardly recognize people standing four meters away.
- It cannot focus on moving bodies so when you are taking picture you have to get your subjects to stay perfectly still or else the camera will focus on a tree behind them.
- The camera does not seem to understand the concept of Red-Eye Reduction. The feature will be on, while the objects in my pictures all have red-eye in them.
As you can imagine, I am quite disappointed with this camera. All of the disadvantages listed above, are ones that my Sony digital camera never had problems with. I thought I was uprgrading with buying a Canon (who claims to be the leader in photography), but much to my suprise I was wrong.
I also want to point out that, to many Canon users the pictures will seem fine until they look at the quality that Sony digital cameras provide. Unfortunately these consumers do not know what they're missing until they've experienced it.
