I have owned this camera for three years now. After figuring out the menus and set ups the versitillity of this camera started to shine. My Pentax k1000 got put in the closet and I finally sold it. I can do more with this camera then I could with the pen
QuickTake:
Pros: easy to use and lots of accessories available for it
Comments:
I have lost many important pix due to inconsistent flash. My kids indoor or low light pix with 5 disposable come out better Should redesign where they put the light meter, which is right by where your hand is to push the shutter
QuickTake:
Pros: Small, lightweight, easy to hold and shoot
Cons: Poor flash, have lost alot of good and important pix
Comments:
I was looking forward to using this camera as an all around camera...I quickly found out that taking portraits is impossible with the built in flash. I am going to return this camera or give it away.....I am very disappointed at Nikon for putting this medicore product on the market
Comments:
This is the ONLY camera out there that can cut the mustard on wide angle and super-wide angle shots (with the optional semi fisheye adapter). Picture quality is quite good if light is good. The built in flash is almost useless, and the advanced controls are buried under a dizzying array of ridiculous nested menus. The user-friendlieness of the menus are horrible and getting to the proper setting during a shoot is nearly impossible. Maddening! Color balance and exposure accuracy are not as good as the better Canon cameras, but those wide-angle shots are unbelievable. I use my Canons for most conventional shooting, but the NIKON is best at the wide shots.
QuickTake:
Pros: The ONLY super-wide angle digital camera. Makes GREAT pix
Cons: Anemic flash, poor access to advanced controls. Hard to use

The camera give a very good qulaity when taking pictures at the outdoor. It will have inconsistent performance when taking picture using built in flash indoor. It would alleviate the problem if select the widest zoom when using flash to take picture indoor.
QuickTake:
Pros: Great and quality pictures with outdoor, good for pro.
Cons: Very poor picture quality taken with built in flash

The lowest price turned out to be a European model and it was not possible to get parts or repairs in the U.S. So buyer beware. Also some of the plugs do not cross to American PCs.
QuickTake:
Pros: Great pics.
Cons: Low price is sometimes a European, no parts in U.S.

QuickTake:
Pros: Die Kamera ist zu langsam.......
Cons: Die Kamera ist zu kompliziert

A GREAT 5 megapixel Camera

I am not an expert photographer, nor am I a beginner. I have found the Nikon 5000 be just the right camera for my mid-level experience. It is easy to use when I want to point and shoot. It challenges me when I want to create more interesting shots. It teaches you to become a better photographer and you feel great when you have improved and grown as an artist. (Plus, you never pay for film or developing in order to improve!) The flash problem does irk me. Seems to be the worst when my subjects are more than 10 feet away from the camera.
QuickTake:
Pros: Great Pictures. Not as hard to learn as some say
Cons: Inconsistant Flash especially at distance
Recommended: Yes

This camera has many feature and can get complicated when trying to set your desire setting, I have have own 6 digital camera to date and the Nikon 5000 in my opinion taken the sharpest pictures. The only short coming I can see is the flash. It does notwork properly all the time and I have had better flashes on other cameras. I normally upgrade about every 15 months. I know I will not upgrade this camera for a couple of years.
QuickTake:
Pros: This camera takes great picture, best digital I ever own.
Cons: Flash does not work properly at times
Recommended: Yes

A camera you can be proud to own

There are a lot of features with this camera that I like. The LCD viewfinder allows for taking pictures in very awkward and tight situations and it allows the photographer the freedom to shoot from just about any perspective. Variable film speed and picture size are easy to use. The menu has a lot of things to master. Althoughth this can be used as a point and shoot camera, I would strongly suggest that you should allow yourself a lot of time to explore the features and practice shooting lots of pictures to become more familiar and accomplished.
Among the features I do not like-- the flash.
Get an extra battery and if you can afford it, get the biggest flash card (128 MByte or larger).
The wide angle lens was a dissapointment. It is too close to the flash and it casts a shadow when used with the flash.
