A well-built, full-featured pro-sumer digital camera for the enthusiast, particularly a vacationing one who doesn't want to lug around a heavy monster. It seems well designed and performs the same, with almost too many choices of settings. The only lenses worth discussing are those from Sony-Zeiss, excellent glass but pricey. Most shooters think the lens is of equal value to the body, or even more so; too bad most casual point-and-shooters don't. Spend the money on the best glass you can afford and see the difference. The A100 is a great start; long live the two newer upgraded models!
QuickTake:
Pros: Compact, good handling, multi-featured, relatively light
Cons: Very complicated seetings and displays; kit lenses so-so

I moved from an ulta-zoom, the Panasonic FZ-20 a great camera. I wanted (needed)stabalization (I did not wan't to break the bank with in lens system from Nikon or Canon). Sony has system in body. I was concerned about dust and Sony has a "system" to keep
QuickTake:
Pros: Image Quality Ease of Use Features Value for $$$$
Cons: DSLR- Need to Change Lenses (also a +++++)
