Double everything said before. After hours and hours of complaints and three repair people looking at the unit as well as trying to get the dealer to listen to my problems, the unit was finally removed from the premises. A real nightmare and now am stuck washing dishes manually. A real bummer! Poorly designed and engineered.

Thanks to Whirlpool and American Express (I charged it, thank goodness), the dealer finally removed it from my home. Of course, now I'm out my reliable GE which I owned for 17 years without a problem except the lower rack tines broke down. I was told they junked it but I don't believe that for a minute. It probably was sold to a used appliance dealer. It was a reasonable decision to buy a new unit. But the dishes would not now clean or dry. Several of my stoneware bowls were crazed or cracked, many of my Mikasa highball tumblers with heavy bottoms shattered into pieces. Three times the unit was examined by repairmen. The first one said I would have to put the dishes in dirty so the sensor could adjust to the system. The second person found that the water intake was only allowing about two quarts of water into the cabinet so changed a part. I was admonished by the third repairman for not using "fresh" dishwashing granules (Electrasol), for washing the dishes before placing in the cabinet and for refusing to use Jet Dry which supposedly is required for dishes to dry. Tried it both ways, didn't make any difference. I also was told to let the hot water run before turning on the dishwasher. A normal load took almost 3 hours to complete its cycle, the potscrubber load went over 4 hours before finishing and still nothing was clean or dry. The soap dispenser would not open and when it did, the Electrasol would get wet and gummy. The inside of the tub was soaking wet even with "heated" dry cycle, so when the door was opened, water would spill out on the kitchen floor. I am still puzzled how this machine got from the planning stages to the production platform without somebody saying, "This system isn't going to work!"

I'm not sure if I have a bum appliance, or if this is just a really lousy dishwasher. Either way, I'm not happy. The water does not get hot - Whirlpool's response 1. It's the EPA's fault, dishwashers can only heat water for 20 minutes now. 2. Turn your hot water heater up to scald (140+), then teach your toddlers to be careful. 3. Insulate your pipes (we did that, it didn't help). We tried raising the hot water tank temp, and it didn't help either. The soap dispenser does not open reliably, when it does, the detergent doesn't dissolve. The dishes just don't get clean. I've called Whirlpool 3 times. They've sent someone out who gave me a diseration on training my toddlers to use really hot water and about using powdered detergent only. Whirlpool says you cannot use the pre-measured pressurized packs - no surprise they blame Electrosol and Cascade for "over pressurizing." I tried liquid and powder - still doesn't dissolve and the soap dispenser doesn't open reliably, so my dishes don't get clean. This is the biggest waste of money and time, it is simply not efficient. Worse yet - this was the "upgrade" version offered by my builder - we paid extra for this model. Don't buy from a builder that uses Whirlpool appliances. I never had these issues with my Maytag (bought by Whirlpool now) or even with the cheapest, old HotPoint in the apartment where we lived while the house was being built. Whirlpool's service is useless, and their product is lousy.
QuickTake:
