Rowenta DX8800 Professional Steam Iron

I have purchased, used and been very happy with Rowenta irons for more than 20 years. However, the DX-8800 Professional model has been nothing but a headache; have returned it at my expense; last time requested refund since I had to purchase another iron while this one was being serviced; customer service ignored this request. The iron stops steaming while in use and sometimes will come back on and sometimes not. It also leaks from the sides and from the face plate onto garments.Help! How can I get restitution?

Comments:
We've now had a total of 4 of this particular model of iron in less than 2 years. All 4 irons worked great for the first 4-8 months. Problems have included: leaking from handle & base, automatic shut off while ironing, not steaming, and gushing water out of sole plate. The retailer replaced the first three and Rowenta replaced the last one. Their Customer Services has been marginal and we had to write a letter to the VP and President. Each time they said they have never heard of these issues, which is hard to believe since we have found similar complaints in other reviews.

<br>After escalating this issue on the last incident, they did send a UPS return shipper to send the fourth iron back to the repair shop. We asked on more than one occasion to either send us an upgrade since this model appears to be problematic or refund our money and they have constantly refused to do either. One other reviewer suggested removing the water from the storage tank after each ironing, since it appears the valves and seals are breaking down after 6-8 months, but you shouldn't have to do that.

Comments:
The electrical cord shorts out easily even if you wind up the cord loosely. Company support is nothing more than a computer generated generic e-mail. The company does not go out of the way to satisfy the customer. Instead, they tell you to send the iron (at your expense) to a customer service center (only 3 in the U.S.). Iron is cheap and customer service is worse.
