Sharp UXB700 Inkjet Fax Machine

In our office we now believe that our OLD thermal fax machine was a better machine than this one. Not only are the ink cartridges extremely expensive, but no one sells discount ink online for this puppy. They do sell refill kits for it - which we tried. Don't do that unless you have time to call haz mat for the ink leakage out the bottom of the machine!

Let's face it. The old addage that you get what you pay for really holds true here. Cheap machine - cheap quality, and you'll end up paying big for the countless ink cartridges it will require.

and DO NOT MAKE 500-600 copies as claimed.

I bought this Sharp fax machine from Staples for my home office. Hookup was very straightforward. It printed 2 faxes and then quit. My wife and I spent the better part of 4 hours trying to trouble shoot it. We could send a fax, but could not make it print (other than the first 2 pages). It received faxes, but would just spit out a blank piece of paper. After 4 hours, we took it outside and ran over it with our SUV. What a piece of crap. I will never buy a Sharp product again.

and/or shipping.

This was the most disappointing consumer purchase I have ever made. I was told that this machine could produce up to 500 pages per cartridge but to expect 300 pages. The truth is that I was lucky to get 40 pages. I reviewed the Owners Manual to see if there was some way to control the ink useage and print quality but there is nothing on the subject. The quality of the print is very bad, small print is blurry and not easy to read. After refaxing a sheet it becomes almost impossible to read. I found myself rushing out to purchase several ink cartridges at a time because I never knew when I'd be running out of ink, which was weekly. I just got smart and returned the darn machine for Cannon that delivers what it advertises. I spent over 200 on the cartridges (35 per was best price I found and some charge 47) in less than 5 weeks and only paid 99 for the fax machine.

The topper to this is that it seems to be intentional on the part of Sharp to generate sales and profits by selling more ink cartridges. The cartridges are not sold as generics and they can not be refilled. Before returning the fax machine I called the 800 number for Sharp to voice my complaint. I was told that they get the same complaint often and there is a way to set the ink flow so you get more pages per cartridge. I told the person at Sharp there was nothing in the manual on this and it seemed to me that consumers should be aware of this before they have to purchase more ink. She seemed uninterested in my comments.

After setting the fax to use less ink my fax quality was so poor that I decided I'd bite the bullet and return the machine for a better one and cut my losses. Office Max was very helpful and gave me full credit of my purchase price toward a different machine.

Sharp may have profited on all my ink cartridge purchases but they have alienated me as a customer.
