Product Rating: 4.00 star(s) Great Navigation Tool

Comments:
Purchased this product to assist in travel to Maine/Nova Scotia (Canada), and it worked great! I had never been to these areas, and this product made my trip enjoyable and stress-free.

Garmin Service was great in helping me initially set my Nuvi up (had a question on how long battery should be charged.)

Road mapping software was 95% accurate (failed to recognize some very remote roads in northern Cape Breton); site (lodging, gas stations, stores, etc.) mapping was less accurate (about 85-90%) as some businesses had relocated, etc., since the software was written. If there was an Inn that was not listed under "Lodging", I simply programmed it in (complete with phone for Bluetooth calling)!

It allows you to choose between Fastest Route or Shortest Distance; a premium Travel Pak is available for traffic updates, road condition alerts, etc. If you know a shortcut and detour off the recommended route, Nuvi will recalculate a new route to your destination.

The default female Navigation voice that came with mine is clear and concise. While occasional mispronunciation occurs, I have not found "her" wording to be incomprehensible. (It should be noted that a choice of several "voices" is allowed.) All verbal directions are also displayed on-screen in writing (e.g., Turn left on Broadway in 0.2 miles) and graphically on map.

The Bluetooth convenience is nice. I used the Nuvi to find a restaurant near the CAT ferry departure point in ME, then call in a reservation! Worked great! Have used this feature several times since, and both audio and speaker quality has been very good.

The Battery back-up makes the device portable, and battery life appears good (have had it "on" for 3-5 hrs and not depleted the charge). The battery will also auto shut-off when removed from the car charger (unless you override), which is a good feature.

I am VERY HAPPY with this product, and would highly recommend it!

QuickTake:

Pros: Portability, Ease of Operation, Auto Shut-off
Cons: LCD screen can be difficult to read in bright sunlight

Product Rating: 3.00 star(s) You Can't Get There From Here

Comments:
I'm so frustrated I could scream. I was SO looking forward to having a GPS. It's great about knowing where you are, but I can't control my routes over long distances. I got spoiled with Microsoft (yep) MapPoint in which I could specify if I wanted to stick to interstates where possible and what speed I would be going on what kind of roads. The latter matters more than you think. In the Nuvi 360, you only have choices between "fastest" and "shortest" routes. You can't tell it if you happen to normally go 75 in a 65 mph zone (which EVERYone does on the Mass Pike). It tried to send me 86 miles via a winding 2-lane road from Troy NY to upper Central MA, when the quickest way, considering my driving habits, is actually I-90 to I-91. I couldn't override it. And it was night. And the thing is: if I didn't KNOW which way I was supposed to go, I might have blindly followed the sucker. Who's the sucker? My options are: 1) find an alternative software/mapping program for the 360 (I don't know if that's possible); 2) map my route on real maps and try to get the nuvi to go that way (lots of work, I think); and 3) send it back. The jury's out, but beware. Read lots of reviews and see what you think before you buy. I bought because I took the word of two people in my family (one who does GIS work for the NSA and one who used to run the USAF AWACS program). You'd think they'd know. But, hey, they're guys - maybe they don't follow the directions anyway. :)

QuickTake:

Pros: nice screen; seems good for in-town stuff
Cons: not enough control over route choices on long trips

Comments:
I tested four routes. The 3 mile one it got correct. A 509 mile 9 hour drive turned into a 722 mile 13 hour. A 2 hour drive became a 3 hour drive zig zagging back and forth and completely ignoring a Free way that the proposed route crossed twice. The last route went from a 4 hour drive to at least 5 hours and extra miles. Its routing product can easily be beaten with a map and pencil.

QuickTake:

Pros: Great graphics
Cons: I could improve routing with a common road map and a pencil

Comments:
took a trip from missouri to california and back. We used the tom tom 510 on our trip there making several stops in denver and las vegas, before continuing to northern california. Tom Tom worked great. located best routes while in california that even notified of tolls on the route. The garmin nuvi 360 was used on the route back, while making stops in padre island texas. Garmin made several errors often trying to send us down two lane highways only to put us back on the same interstate 20 miles later. The voice is very hard to understand. I have always supported garmin and have their gps for my laptop which works much better. The voice is still bad though.

QuickTake:

Pros: clear screen and good graphics
Cons: often sends you down 2-lane highways instead of interstate
