Bought the Model 1412 from Costco in Livonia, Michigan for $149.95 in June 2008. Was in Boise, Idaho in July when the display went blank while we were in the Costco parking lot there. So I went inside and they exchanged it for a new unit.
Got back to Livonia in August and the second unit display froze up. Just driving down the road and the display decided to freeze. So I took it back to the Costco Livonia store and guess what, they no longer have the Model 1412 in the store or on their Website.
So now I'm looking for another GPS.... :o(
QuickTake:
Pros: Bright display. Ease of use. Variable volume. Large buttons.

My unit starting misbehaving after a few weeks. I've emailed Magellan support but I just keep getting the run around. I'm ready to toss this one in the trash and buy a different brand.
Comments:
This is a great GPS system at a very affordable price. For a device of this caliber from a different brand, I would've had to pay at least $100 more. The device's voice is very easy to understand and gives just the right amount of notice before having to make a turn or take an off ramp. The Magellan 1412 is solid. I'd recommend it to anyone.
QuickTake:
Pros: text to speech, good POI coverage, big screen
Cons: hard to figure out how to view a full route before you start
Recommended: Yes
Has Owned Product: 2 Week(s)

I am very pleased with the Magellan 1412 GPS unit. With a coupon, I purchased it at Costco for 150 dollars. This is my first GPS unit. I am in love with this GPS. It is a shade slower than the GPS Hertz uses in their rental cars, but overall I am very pleased. It does require some accuracy. For instance, when I tried typing in an address for Hwy 360, the GPS only recognized it when I typed State Highway 360 instead of S. Hwy 360. The GPS remembers up to 100 previous desinations and saves them until you go back and delete them. It's very helpful to have those for quick references. The large screen is a plus and helps you see the maps very well. The night mode is awesome and the text to speech is very helpful when you need to make immediate turns the unit will tell you right away when to take a right or left. The GPS reroutes very quickly and I can zoom in and out to see a detailed route of where I'm going. If I want to detour, I can click on something off the map it is reroutes me where I want to go with ease. The 6 million Points of Interest give phone numbers and addresses for places such as aiports, hotels, and shopping malls. I am blonde and this unit is very simple for me to use. The manual takes you step by step on how to use the GPS. If you don't need traffic reports, this unit is perfect for you. It does not require a monthly fee and there are maps on the Magellan website if you need to get updated ones for your unit. It does not have the AAA tourguide loaded in it, but every destination usually has a phone number that you can call for more info. The GPS is portable and very easy to use. This GPS is a winner in my book!
