During the past 10 years using laptops I never had a hard drive die out on me. This one did, 3 months after I bought the laptop. I'm very disappointed. I would check if I have warranty, but I really don't want to get another unreliable hard drive. The cost in data loss is much greater than the extra 20 bucks you pay for another brand.

My travelstar was a replacement for a not spacious enough Fuijitsu drive in my Dell Notebook. Although it wasn't used very often, I estimate the total use less than 100 hrs, it suddenly died.
Comments:
The other review was spot on...ours lasted only just over 2 years. I won't be purchasing an IBM for a replacement.

Unless a two-year life expectancy is normal for laptop harddrives, Avoid this one.

It stinks!! It came in our HP laptop and had a 12 month warranty. 13 months and 1 day after the purchase it DIED a quick death, no time to save anything! It started with a slight clicking and in less than 2 minutes it locked up and never cranked again.
Needless to say we did NOT replace it with an IBM.
QuickTake:
Pros: It came in my laptop.
Cons: It died 41 days after the warranty went out.

I bought one of these little babies when they first came out, and I can't find anything to complain about, so I guess I'll have to rate it Excellent, right? =)
I'm using this drive in a barebone system with a 2.5 to 3.5 standard IDE converter.
