Comments:
Do not confuse the 64-bit 29160 with the 32-bit 29160N. The 29160 has a 64-bit PCI interface, that Adaptec claims it will run in your average 32-bit PCI slot. Regardless of configuration (IRQ, termination, SCSI ID, etc.) the 29160 would not run an IBM 73 LZX or Fujitsu MAN336MP in anything other than 8-bit legacy mode (40M/s) on the SE connector on either an ASUS P4PE with BETA BIOS or on a Dell Precision 330 workstation with current BIOS. When notified of this Adaptec's technical support technician said we are aware of compatibility problem yet asserted I needed to update the motherboard BIOS (did that already). Adaptec refused to exchange the product which my vendor probably shipped because Adaptec claims the 29160 will run in 32-bit mode. This is misleading.
QuickTake:
Pros: none
Cons: in 32-bit slot, runs only in legacy mode at 40M/s
