Lenovo ThinkPad R61e
Lenovo's ThinkPad range is one of the most renowned business laptop brands around. While the ThinkPad R61e lacks style and features, it compensates with a great keyboard and strong battery life. It still remains a fairly niche product, however.
Review Verdict: The stark black design suits corporate use, but is unlikely to appeal to consumers. The chassis is one of the bulkiest in this group test, but its 2.9kg weight allows for basic mobility. The 281-minute battery life, under test, is impressive and lets you
Sony Vaio VGC-M1
Review Verdict: But it's not just TV performance that has improved; tunes also sound good. And the M1 is no slouch on the PC side either, with a 3GHz Pentium 4 processor and 512MB of RAM. Our only complaints are that it lacks the graphics punch to do justice to the lates

Lenovo continues to make the ThinkPad a durable, high-performance machine for all types of users. The R61 is bulky and heavy, but performs just as well as it's cousin the T61 which costs nearly $800 more with the same options as I bought. Lenovo has changed the UltraNav in recent years to something I feel is less responsive and hard to use, however that's not specific to this model. The overall system performance is exceptional, under both Linux and Windows XP. Under Windows Vista one will want to ask for ATI or NVidia graphics to make it perform. Linux compatibility is perfect on the latest release of Ubuntu.
