Creative Sound Blaster Wireless Music
by Dave Cusick
Review Verdict:
Wireless media adapters are getting pretty common these days, but the Creative Sound Blaster Wireless Music system does try to bring something new to the party. The RF remote control would have been a huge bonus, but the range isn?t what it should have be

The product worked right out of the box and the sound is quite decent. Hooked it up to powered Bose speakers in my bedroom and, though the wi-fi router is down the hall and in another room, the reception is fine. The software is fairly intuitive, albeit a little clunkly (i.e., it could use a little streamlining). The remote is a great little device and makes the interface to the music very easy. When inputting music selections or playlist the response time leaves a little to be desired (e.g., 5-10 secs). But once going, pre-set playlists or on the fly playlists move along without any delays. There are the very infrequent but annoying drop-outs of music but within a few seconds the glitch typcially resolves. Also, the remote has on more than one occasion locked-up and needed "rebooting" which simply involves detach-reattaching a battery. This is a minor inconvenience considering the incredible convenience of having a reasonbly priced wireless system that enables my pc as music server.
Everything about it works as advertised except one glaring inconsistency. While the product literature states that you can have up to 4 receivers with a single remote, you can't buy the remote and receiver separately! So, if you want to set up multiple receivers around the house, you have no choice but to also buy the remote with each of them. But the price is right and a little redundancy is ok.
