Sunbeam Heritage Stand Mixer

This mixer did a good job of mixing the ingredients. I used it mainly for cakes and mashed potatoes and made cookies a couple of times. The main problem with this mixer is the quality. After a year or so, the beaters became so misaligned that they clicked against each other. A repairman told me that this was probably a stripped gear, but it could not be replaced as no repair parts are available. My husband disassembled the mixer and discovered that the gears were inaccessible as they were inside a sealed unit. The repair man told him that this mixer was a 'China special' throw away mixer. Enough of that. We have now purchased a Hamilton Beach stand mixer and hope to have better luck with that. Previously to the Sunbeam mixer, my wife used a Kitchen Aid, but was disappoined in the quality of that also. The motor only lasted three years. The Hamilton Beach has a three year warranty plus a 'best buy' rating by a leading consumer products magazine.

I don't bake often, have never owned a stand mixer, and did lots of research before purchasing this one. It is beautiful and I got it for a fabulous price - $98 at Wal-Mart! The bowl turns/the beaters stay in same position but they do not scrape the sides of the bowl. The bowl is offset so you can easily add ingredients. This extra space came in handy as I was required to scrape the side of the bowl as it spun to assure the ingredients went to the middle so the beaters would reach it. Brownies and pound cake turned out good; however, carrot cake caused the bowl to quit turning (batter was thick) and I had to turn the bowl manually with one hand while scraping the sides with the other hand. I could not imagine trying to make bread dough (thicker than carrot cake). The mixer is being returned to Wal-Mart tomorrow and I'm saving credit card points to get a Kitchen Aid Artisan model. So much for my research and the good price.

The mixer worked wonderfully for the first 10 months, although I used it rarely. Then this week I was unable to get it turned on. It is positively inoperable with no explanation. Three appliance repair shops refused to even look at it explaining that

I have really enjoyed this product. I am not a cook but have been baking more since I received it for Christmas last year. It is not nearly as expensive as some of its counterparts but still extremely sturdy.

Need to know what to do? Would like to have numbers on the dial that would stay and be useable. Can you help,please?
