Don't follow the owners manual when trying to clean the cooking grates. They have a coating over cast iron grates. The owners manual says to use a brass brush to clean cold. The coating came off the cast iron by following the cleaning suggestions. I have cleaned them with the brass brush and also with soap and water as suggested. Just treat it like any other grill. Clean it when hot, let the rest burn off and you are ready for the next time. I did call Weber and they are sending me out new grates because of the manual. Customer service at Weber is tops and I would buy Weber again. Great grill!
