I've been dealing with these machines for awhile. The best thing this machine has to offer is a fax machine from HP thats under 149 bucks. For a college student, it has your flatbed scanner so there is really no limit to what someone could scan, so long as it's not to big for the scanner to see. It can take up to a 8 1/2 by 14 size sheet while scanning or coping(need to use the document feeder) which could help depending on what the task is. Most colleges won't require their students to have a machine that can do legal size documents but it may be helpful to an every day user. The machine also supports two types of black ink cart. A small and a large(56 black). As for the fax machine, it supports up to 5 autodial fax numbers and also has a junk fax blocker.
<br>
<br>Now for the bad. The scanner lid isn't built as well as it could have been but there hasn't been to many problems so far with that. The craddle for the cartridges doesn't last to long. Mine went after about 8 months but it may just be caused by overuse. When I orignally started to use it I was a first semester student. Now I'm into my actual degree and using the print a lot more so it may be due to that. There is no option for a large color and the cartridge system they use is the older style. HP has the 74/75 series now for their smaller machines which have two options. Standard and extra large(XL). Also, unlike some of their other machines, there is no tray thats sits ontop of the paper tray. It normally prevents dust from getting ontop of the paper, which also prevents it from getting inside the machine.
<br>
<br>All in all, this machine isn't the worst machine ever, it's not the best either though. If your a college student that won't be using the machine a lot (100 - 150 pages a month) this may be your machine. If you are going to be using it a lot, you may want to step up to the 6310 Officejet or go right into the new series and purchase a L7000 series Officejet. The L7000 series are large machines that take the number 88 ink tanks. Unless your going to print off 1000 copies every month or more, you may want to stick with a 6310 or just go laser if you just need black and white. The cost of a laser machine compared to an ink jet over time is cheaper. Don't buy this machine if your doing photos. If your doing photos, you'll probably want a C5280, C6280, C7280, or C8180. The C6280 - C8180 uses the number two cartridges so each color is individual for better ink placement. More accurate for Photos. If you want all the bells and whistles, go with the C8180. It has no fax machine(C7280 is the only one that does have a fax machine) but it has a touch screen for menus and even has a DVD burner directly on the machine.

<br>Well, thats my input. Hope it helps.
Comments:
I owned a 3310. Loved it. I could set it to print fine quality photos. When I did this it would print slowly. The 7280 only prints at one speed. Even when set to max dpi, the prints look grainy. If it printed more slowly it might fill up the pores of the paper better and make a better print. The 3310 allowed the user change settings in may more ways than the 7280. The 7280 has too many automatic and standard settings. Very disappointed. I have contacted hp several times and cannot seem to find anyone who knows anything.
QuickTake:
Pros: It has many functions
Cons: Prints are grainy and not lab quality as advertised.

Not worth the money, spend more to get a better product
Comments:
The printer has given us a lot of problems. We've had it a year and we get a great deal of error messages that you can clear just be hitting the cancel button (but you have to hit it to use it). The error messages will say things like "Ink cartrage jammed, clear it." But there is nothing to clear. It's fine. It must be an electronic glitch. Also the printer sprays out a bunch of ink on the right hand side where it sits when waiting to print. It's like this huge pile of ink that you have to go in a clean out maybe every 9 months or so. The ink cartrages also don't last very long.
QuickTake:
Pros: Light, small footprint,
Cons: Cheap, gives lots of error messages, badly constructed

This is a Multi Function Machine " as opposed to an All In One " simply as it also has a fax built in, so it's a printer, scanner, copier and fax in a single unit....
Review Verdict: Fax sending and receiving is something that is not as important to most as it once was, however it worked efficiently. I was pleased to have an on/off switch but of course the unit would have to be left on to receive faxes

As a MFU it not only prints, scans, copies but also for those who still require it can send and receive faxes. The latter is the difference between an MFU and a All In One....
Review Verdict: It is 44x42x24cm and weights only around 6kilos. The name sort of gives it away as an office product but that normally means expensive but you should be able to find it for less than three figures as the HP guide is £99 including VAT. It has both flatbed
