Comments:
It used to be Ruby, now there is a Pearl. If you have your sights set on an SXRD 1080p projector and are on a shoestring budget, this could just be your only alternative out there.

Product Rating: 4 star(s) Sony VPL-VW50

Comments:
Two technologies have dominated the projector market in recent years: LCD and DLP, but there's a further pretender to the throne - Sony's SXRD technology. Thus far, the market hasn't been too affected due to the high-end nature of Sony's alternative.

Review Verdict: The Pearl certainly has some sparkle but £3,500 may be a bit much to shell out

Product Rating: 5 star(s) Sony VPL-VW50

Comments:
We've long admired Sony's SXRD projection technology, first on the company's Qualia 004, and then on the 'Ruby' VPL-VW100. Now the Pearl has come along, delivering the technology at a price point that doesn't make our eyes water

Sony VPL-VW50 SXRD Front Projector

Comments:
The star of this year's CEDIA Expo was undoubtedly the VPL-VW50, the third generation of 1920x1080 SXRD front projectors from Sony. Listing for just half the price of the previous-generation VPL-VW100 (which garnered TPV's Product of the Year award for 20

Review Verdict: Despite the few problems I've cited, the VPL-VW50 produced a beautiful picture, especially considering its list price of only $5000. That makes it the second lowest-priced 1080p front projector on the market (the lowest being the Mitsubishi HC5000, an LCD

Sony VPL-VW50 Front Projector: On the Bench

Comments:
Sony pretty much owned CEDIA 2006 as of day one when this projector was officially announced. Although the $5K price of this projector is a full 50% lower than Sony's previous SXRD PJ, the Ruby, it's a hot looking projector with an outstanding feature set
