Yes the fan always runs but I can't hear it unless i'm standing next to the unit. The channel menu is slowwww...when you pull up the menu, it shows like 7 channels and it takes like a second for every channel's guide to load. Very slow. I was wondering if

Product Rating: 4 star(s) Affordable TiVo technology

, Jul. 14, 2003
Comments:
For DirecTV fans, this is a major upgrade. Recording is a snap, you can record two shows at once (you can't do that with a standalone TiVo) and the picture and sound quality is excellent (since it comes directly from your dish, there's no quality loss).

The Direct TV/Tivo combination is alluring to those who want to get into digital recording cheaply. Tivo makes it easy too. If you are a previous Direct TV subscriber who has used Hughes receivers you will likely be disappointed with the TiVo Series 2- HD

I don't get it where some people say that the Tivo with DIRECTV is noisy? I can barely hear it running. All I hear is a fan and my RCA 4 head VCR is louder then my Tivo. This is the best thing that I have bought since I bought my computer. The Tivo

Easy to setup, some negatives: the unit cannot be turned off, you actually have to unplug it if you want the whir of the fan to stop, it's not that bad, but in a small, quiet living room, it sounds like a small personal computer. Also, on my other Hughes

Product Rating: 5 star(s) Pic quality selection not necessary with DirecTV models

, Feb. 13, 2003
Comments:
I believe that the DirecTV models have never had the quality selection. Since DirecTV is a digital signal, it is likely to have a much better picture than the non-DirecTV models. I also had the Sony SAT-T60 (the Tivo original DirecTV model) and it doesn

The Tivo records say you can record "up to 35 hours" - on the Sony model you can (apparently) choose high, medium or low quality recording depending on how much room you want to take up on the hard drive. I assumed this was the case with the Hughes model
