I bought this tv after many hours of research. I checked just about every credible web site and visited Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears and a local high end electronic retailer, Flanners. I own a Sony rear projection lcd (which we replaced with this tv)and a Hitachi plasma. Both bought for the same reason I bought this tv; value. I do my best to make sure I get the best tv for the money, not necessarily the best tv. This is a great tv, don't get me wrong, but the price is more why I bought it than anything. The picture in both HD and standard defiinition was better than the Sony I replaced. But this tv is 1080p and 46". My Sony was 60" and 720p making the blurring easier to notice. So it's not a true "apples to apples" comparison.
<br><br>Flanners doesn't carry Sharp so they had nothing good to say about it. The other stores pretty much steered me towards Sony. Looking at the sets in the store it's very difficult to see differences. But it's very easy to see price tags. The sales people tried to tell me about the deeper blacks on the Sony, the "better" technology etc. But looking at one tv and walking over to the next, I could see very little difference. What finally made me decide on the Sharp was Circuit City's price. They had this tv as one of their "Black Friday" door buster deals. It was $1299 on sale from $2499. I also bought a 10% off coupon off eBay and saved an extra $129 making the tv $1170. An unbeateable deal. Sony may have a slightly better picture but for an extra thousand dollars, I couldn't justify it. When I told myself I could buy this tv and the other 42" plasma on sale for the same price as 1 Sony, my decision was made.
<br><br>Bottom line: A great tv if you get it for the right price. Otherwise I would probably have gone for Sony if spending the same money.
